My name is Jennifer Fuller James and I have been an educator since 1992. I have worked with children with special needs and their parents in many different capacities over the last 20 years. I have been a school counselor, a school social worker, an intervention specialist, a behavior specialist, a substitute teacher, a special education teacher for children with emotional disabilities, a special education teacher for children with autism spectrum disorders, a special education teacher for children with multiple disabilities and a reading tutor. I have worked with children from the ages of 3-21 in the public school setting in three different states over the span of my career.
I am a very compassionate person who wants to help all children reach their fullest potential. It has been my experience, that many parents get lost in the IEP process and I decided to start this blog in an effort to help parents better understand “the system” and to help them become stronger and more effective advocates and parents for their children. My intention is to explain important aspects of the IEP process to you based on my experiences.
I am not a lawyer and I am not giving you legal advise. If you have a legal issue related to your child’s IEP, please seek legal advise from an attorney who specializes in educational law.
I received my BA in Social Work & Sociology from Whittier College in 1990. I received my Master’s in Social Work from The University of Washington in 1992 and I received my Master’s in Special Education from The University of Northern Colorado in 2005.
